You don't have to join the list to read the archived messages. There is
probably a group of info there.

If it's an aircooled Vanagon joing the type2 list (be prepared for high
volume, might want to set up a separate email address for it) and ask
there.
If it's watercooled try the vanagon list. I don't know what the vo0lume is
like there.
