Sammy: Just do it! What a great trip!!! Me and Cindy lived in Ventura and Santa Paula (10 miles inland) for 19 years and covered that same ground many times. I have serious doubts a bus could make it up Stage Coach Road. . .alive, that is. Boy, could we tell you stories. We lived 4 blocks up from the Hells Angels HQ. We saw the Dead at the Fairgrounds (among other places, of course). We backpacked every mountain range you'll see along the way. And too many places to stop along the way. There's an original Indian MC shop in Ventura called, appropriately enough, The Indian Shop. And the best campgrounds (Lion's Camp north of Ojai). And the best beaches, nude or otherwise (party on the Rincon, sunbathe on Black's Beach, avoid Santa Barbara unless you like pickin' tar from your butt). And the best side trips (Santa Ynez, home of the Hollywood Dutch, all the missions along the way and the wineries, especially Fess Parker). . .. And. . .. And. . .. And. . .. Heck, if I weren't taking a To The End Of The Earth & Back trip (St. Johns, Nova Scotia), I'd join you. Too much to do with too little time and money to do it with. Whaaa. ________________________________ Date: Thu, 6 Mar 2008 06:59:58 -0800 From: atx_bus@xxxxxxxxx Subject: [tcb] Re: Pretty Good Bus Article To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx I agree with Denis. I can't believe I just put that in print. Sounds like more fun in a bus. You have the SO-42 made for trips like these. ----- Original Message ---- From: Denis Dodson To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, March 6, 2008 8:51:31 AM Subject: [tcb] Re: Pretty Good Bus Article Pfft! 4,500 miles in a Baja? Hotels the whole trip? Piece o' cake. Why not do it in your camper? It's much more of an adventure in a bus. The danger of not making it, of breaking down on a 500' cliff in Big Sur. There will be vistas that you would never be able to study if you weren't stuck behind a friggin' RV for 35 miles near Carmel. You could just pass him in the Baja, and what fun is that? Sleeping in the bus in a roadside stop and waking to the smell and barking of mating or fighting sea lions. And there is always the adventure of crossing the Continental Divide in a bus. That's an accomplishment, there's a TRIP OF A LIFETIME. The Baja is nice, but it's still just driving around in a nice old car. 4500 miles will beat me by 1000. I took 35 days. In the Baja you'll be back in a week. ----- Original Message ----- From: sammie smith To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, March 06, 2008 8:25 AM Subject: [tcb] Re: Pretty Good Bus Article OK, that article has some element of encouragement, for I too am thinking of a road trip. No trailer, just taking the Denis "Trip-of-a-lifetime." The CA Bug-In is Sunday April 6. From April 7 to 11 there is the ultimate in VW cruises up the Pacific Coast Highway from LA to San Francisco visiting such places as Pismo Beach, Big Sur and Morrow Bay and returning to Ventura for the VW Treffen X on Saturday April 12. Sort of along the way I need to make a side trip to Durango CO. The entire trip would be approximately 4,500 miles. And no, not in a VW bus, but in the Baja. Should I do it? Well, I am thinking about it strongly but not sure I want to attempt it or not. If you are interested in looking at the itinerary for this amazing once-in-a-lifetime VW cruise go to Airhead Parts web site and look it up www.airheadparts.com You can also see some details on page 35 of the April issue of Hot VWs.
