Shift fork broken or loose or slider is toast. Those would be my guesses.

A funny thing happened on the way home from Austin today.
We lost 3rd and 4th gear in our 89 westy. 1st, 2nd and reverse still work but
when you shift into where 3rd or 4th were, nothing happens. Just as if it was
in neutral.
We had some trouble a few years back with it shifting between 3rd and 4th gears
but it just sort of went away until this afternoon. It was hard to shift in and
out of gear, them we heard some grinding sounds, and now there we are.
We drove the last 15 miles home on side roads at about 25 mph which was on the
tach just about as fast as we could safely go.
Could I have broken the 3rd /4th shift fork? Any suggestions or thoughts?
I was going to call Austin VDub for a used tranny tomorow....
