I am going to go shopping at my parents house for a dwell meeter and a remote 
start button.  I can not really keep the bus running long enough to get outand 
adjust anything.  I also read some stuff online about where it should be timed 
and it is not where the muir book said.  So i at least have some ideas to give 
a try.  I will give you a call after I have done these things.

manual then it should start and run. Check for intake vacuum leaks. Those will 
make it run really badly and not let it idle. Spray some starter fluid near the 
intakes between the spark plugs. That should make it change RPM or whatever. 
Make sure your sparkplug wires are tight to the plugs. Make sure the wire from 
the distributor to the coil is good and tight. If you have a single carb, make 
sure that all your hoses are connected tight. If you zoom your engine and it 
backfires when you let off the accelerator, that would mean an exhaust leak. 
That should not affect the idle, but who knows.. Check your fuel lines to the 
carb and into the fuel pump. Disconnect the line from your pump to the carb and 
turn the engine over. You should get a steady
 squirt. If you have no help, just point the fuel line away from the engine 
with the engine door open and look for the fuel on the ground. It should be a 
good healthy squirt. If you have dirt in the line that should clear it. Make 
sure that you air cleaner filter is clean.,

  After you have done all that stuff and if you can keep an idle at all, loosen 
the distributor clamp and move it very little at a time. It should  make the 
engine run better or worse. Pick the spot where it runs the best and mark it. 
You may have a distributor that has moved out of the proper gear alignment.

Hey man it's Tim the guy with the yellow bus in east springdale.  I am having 
some timing problems and don't know where to turn.

I replaced my trans axle and cleaned the motor.  Now that it is put back 
together I am having troubles getting it to stay running.  I have narrowed it 
down to what I think is a timing issue.  However I have set the timing 
according to the muir book. 

I am trying to leave to go camping tomorrow around 5:00 so I am open ideas.  

If you have a moment, give me a call I would like to see if you have any ideas 
that will get it running.  I will likely be working on it untill I get 
something going.
