Yep, I've noticed that the difference in temperature is an extra 50 degrees for
5 mph after 60. So 75 mph would probably be 450-500 in the afternoon. Might
have to move over to the middle lane...

ha ha

just consider how much aluminum expands.. Valve seats, stellite or hardend
steel, are pressed into the head.

Aluminum melts at 1220F so you're still a way away from melting but that's one
of the main causes of dropped valve seats....

Also remember that the valve guides, bronze/silicone, also have different
expansion properties so if you run
your head at a high temp for a sustained period expect things to fall off.

To Chuck's point though, just drive it but also develop a profile of what your
engine's characteristics are

so that when you see it jump to 500F you can then say "this isn't right."

yep, I already had the "Woah 450 degrees!" on the way home and I was only doing
70. But it reminds me not to stay on the  pedal as much.

When Denis "built"Murray he wanted a cht gauge .I
told him to forget it because it would scare him to death. The oil temp is
enough.

I picked up a quad analog aircraft cht gauge a few months
ago.  I'm still looking for the senders for it.  Ratwell.com as
mentioned does have some info on CHT.

Here's a table I've referenced
recently.  It sounds like you're in comparable range.

Have you looked at ratwell.com? He has some notes about the DD CHT
there. One day I'm going to get one.

So I got the DD CHT gauge wired up yesterday. I
couldn't get it to go to the "set up" mode. Does anyone
have
a Dakota Digital CHT gauge on the list?
Anyway it appears to be working fine, yanked out the
VDO gauges if anyone is interested in them lemme know. They
are the gauges only for oil temp and oil pressure.

Average temp was about 350 when about 60 mph but got up
to 404 in 4th going 80 with it floored. Are these average?
I
have never had a CHT gauge before.

                    James
