I finally made it through Chapter 1, although I haven't done all the
exercises.

I mean to say that I made it through a first reading. As I've been saying,
it seems to me that this book is difficult enough that one can't
expect to go over it just once and be done with it.

Now, why is it difficult? That's another matter. For me, it's
at least partly because I haven't thought about logarithms and derivatives
and such for 30 years or so.

Anyway, I need to struggle through a couple more exercises to confirm what
I've learned so far.

I'm still withholding judgment about Scheme in general and in particular
about Gnu's recommended Guile/C combination. The foreword characterizes
Pascal as good for building pyramids and Lisp as good for building
organisms. I don't think I grasp the latter point yet.
