Hi.

Firstly, the pin is connected with the sim card though you can also lock the
phone, have it start locked and use a pin to unlock it.

If you put the sim in another phone you will therefore be asked to enter
the pin when the phone starts.

If someone steels your phone and the phone is not locked then the likelyhood
is that the phone will be switched on anyway when it is taken. You would
probably have to call your provider and get the phone blocked.

Regards

Graham

Subject: [talks-uk] Question concerning the blocking of phones on networks

Hi all,
This is a cross-posted message, hope the admins don't mind.
Today I successfully upgraded the firmware of my E71 without having to
unbrand the device or similar, which I was very pleased with.
When configuring my settings, I decided that I'd try having a pin code
on the phone. I enabled the option, but was then asked to enter the
pin code. I took three guesses all of which were wrong, and was then
asked to enter my PUK code. I went online and managed to receive it
from my network provider, and entered it into the phone, which
presented me with the choice of entering a new pin.
However, I've got some questions.
On the website, it states that if the PUK code is entered 10 times
incorrectly, the Sim is autimatically locked.
However, I'm wondering, does this mean that if the code is entered 10
times in one go it'll lock, or does it mean 10 times, seporatly or
otherwise, and is this remembered by the Sim itself?
Is the pin code a Sim card feature, or a phone one?
In other words, if I was to insert the Sim into another phone, would
the pin prompt come up?
And finally, even if the pin is entered three times incorrectly and it
prompts for a PUK code, what if I were to remove the sym, and use the
phone in offline moad?
Surely, if someone did steal my phone and enter the pin three times
incorrectly, they ould just remove the sim?
Hope someone knows the answers to these questions.
Sorry, and hope it all makes sence.
Cheers.
