As an assistive tool, the BrainPort vision device may enhance important functions as mobility, orientation, reading, object recognition, employment, and recreation. The BrainPort system presents information to the brain via electrical stimulation of the tongue, augmenting normal sensory channels. The device consists of an electrode array for the tongue, a video camera, and a control system.
