Hello Disability Rights Advocates:
Florida has a great group of blindness advocates and probably advocates for
other disabilities as well. TCB has certainly had a long history of fighting
for important issues. This week
HR 1221 was passed out of committee--12 Republicans for the bill, 8
Democrats opposed. The purpose of the bill is to prevent abortions of
preborn babies for disability reasons only. In other words, this bill,
hopefully passed, will protect a preborn baby with a genetic disease like I
have (RP, Down syndrome, spina bifida, or any other disability that can be
detected in vitro from being aborted for no other reason. I find it scarey
that we need a bill to protect people like us who are articulate, productive
people who just happen to be blind.
I urge each of you to contact our Florida officials and advocate for the
right to life for future people like ourselves.
