Hi Carrie,
Totally support your ideas! I was thinking along the same lines but am not
nearly as connected as you. I was wondering how to motivate the public
utilities dept. to develop an interest in recharging groundwater, reducing
pollutants heading to the ocean, improving the degraded channel by
re-engineering and vegetating the area. Is Park and Rec involved at all?
Definitely should be. Also there's the argument that residents need improved
open space options and our network of canyons could also be a tourist draw. The
PUD could get cred in future industry meetings as being ahead of the curve on
environmental benefits achieved through new approaches to storm drainage and
sewage systems.
How can I help?
Thanks,
Libby

Hello Carrie,
I couldn't tell from the info exactly where the energy dissipator would be
located. Could you clarify?
Thank you, Libby

Hi Friends of Switzer Canyon ,
To Dan’s point, there is indeed a big sewer/stormwater project GJ 828 which is
in the planning phase, work is estimated to start in about a year.
The City will be presenting at the North Park Planning Committee. Register to
attend the meeting via Zoom here:
https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwqd-mhrz4vGNG_ejPymVw_ZPE4IhmVqMdm
The City presented about a month ago at a subcommittee meeting and the result
was a SUBCOMMITTEE MOTION: To recommend the City consider onsite vegetation
mitigation within Switzer Canyon in collaboration with the Friends of Switzer
Canyon to the greatest extent feasible, and conduct a dissipater alternative
analysis with priority on minimizing invasiveness and potential for vandalism
prior to approving the SDP.
The dissipator alternative analysis is needed because the style that the City
is planning to use is very intrusive and will be a graffiti magnet– see photo.
The request for onsite mitigation is to fund projects to improve the canyon
rather than sending the money out-of-region.
Best,
Carrie

Not sure about a road through the canyon, but maybe, they are already getting
ready to tear up the whole canyon for the eight-million-dollar sewer project.
Will there be mitigation for environmental damage done to the CSS and chaparral?

Will do.
Just a question, just walked through Switzerland canyon, and now noticed a
plowed road through it, which might encourage off road bikers. Why did they do
that?
Thanks

Dear Friends of Switzer Canyon
Great news - the CA legislature passed AB1178 which regulates second-generation

Please leave a message with the governor to sign this bill.
