[sugpro] severely gelled denatured alcohol or solid that burns like etMy
brother and I were just reminiscing about the infamous (to us) fondueincident*,
which would have been prevented by Sterno. This got me wonderingif Sterno could
be used with potassium nitrate as rocket fuel. Propep seemsto think that a rich
mix of ethanol and KNO3 would burn pretty cool, although perhaps that means it
wouldn't burn at all. Then, of course, onewonders whether it's possible to gell
it enough to use as rocket fuel, orJetex fuel, which doesn't have to withstand
as much acceleration.Speaking of cool burning, it would be nice to have
something which couldquickly measure the temperature of a Jetex motor (maybe
.6" OD?) to comparefuels, and maybe help me come up with something that
wouldn't melt thealuminum versions. I might also use when cooking something
that mighteventually go into solid rocket fuel.I could use a thermocouple, I
suppose, but then I think I'd need somethingexpensive to read it. My voltmeters
are all cheapies and I doubt they'dgive good readings. The motors in question
are, as mentioned, maybe 06" indiameter and might be tricky with infrared
thermometers.*Not to worry, only the curtains were
harmed.------------------------------From: Abraham Baker
