You can also hit control+A to highlight the entire track before normalizing or
applying some other effect. Might save a few keystroeks!

Thanks, Peter; I didn't think of that. It works well; the other day I had a
defective file that I copied into a digital device; put the digital file in
studio recorder and normalized it; although you can adjust the volume level of
a file in studio recorder, quite often normalizing it works well. I mark the
beginning and end of the file before normalizing just to be sure the entire
file is adjusted.
