As I read the message about the Windows update taking away the sound card settings, I thought some here may be interested in this program. Quick Mix creates a backup of your sound card settings, and can restore those settings whenever necessary. I have it on all of my machines, both at home and at work. One place to get it is on the programs page of the Jaws Users site. http://www.jaws-users.com/programs/ Mike Duke, K5XU ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kimberly Morrow, PhD." <morrowmediakc@xxxxxxxxx> To: <studiorecorder@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, November 26, 2012 8:31 AM Subject: [studiorecorder] something to be aware of as you update Microsoft Windows Greetings, SR Listers: Recently I posted a thread regarding a challenge I was experiencing while utilizing the Studio Recorder program. I was doing some recording as a function of my job. I utilized the usual f6 command to initiate the recording function. When I returned from my lunch break and attempted to record, SR prompted me that I had an "invalid wave device". My I.T. department uninstalled and re-installed the SR software, and even attempted to install it on a different computer, all to no avail; the error prompt continued to appear and I could not initiate a recording session. When we looked at any variables that might have occurred during that fateful lunch hour, we realized that a series of updates had been done. One of these updates somehow unchecked the microphone specification in Studio Recorder. Without a selected mic, Studio Recorder could indeed not record. If updates are delivered to your computer, please be aware that if Studio Recorder does not function correctly, it may be time to go back to basics and make sure that all of the proper specifications are selected. A very simple solution to an extremely frustrating problem. My heartfelt thanks to Neal, Tim, and others on this list who took hours of time during a holiday week to provide assistance. Thank you, Kimberly Morrow
