Just how big are we talking? Not that it matters now, but it will when
building a corral to hold them. And how many? dozens? scores? hundreds?

I will move off recognizing the warning with a head bob. "Okay gentlemen.
Message received. You all have a nice day."
I will listen to the bleating and try to practice the sound. Might come in

start moving towards Ahearn in a less than friendly manner. They will start to
snort and paw at the ground. There is a bit of bleating and snorting going on
as well. Ahearn is thinking a stampede might be coming shortly.

As I said, the first sign of a defensive reaction I will move sideways to

to try and touch them, just want to see where their comfort level is. And will
step away to get them to relax. I will keep my voice calm and steady. If
someone bows up on me, I will cease movement and prepare for a charge, but it's
all about getting them to see me as a nonthreat. Once I find the distance they
get defensive on, I will move away from that a bit and look for them to relax.
I won't spend all day working with them, just letting them get a smell and look
at me, and after a bit, I will move back the group, motioning for them to move
off.

I will approach the herd from the front, where a predator would least likely
approach. I stay visible and will stop moving the moment they show signs of
noticing me. I won't make eye contact, but will speak in a low, clear voice
comforting words. I'm not trying to get to touching distance, just close enough
that a rope could be thrown on one if I were crazy enough to be inclined. I'm
just trying to get to know them, and let them know me.
"Aren't you just big beautiful things," I will speak gently but clear. My eyes
will move over the herd, trying to get a number. No sudden movements. "Mother
brought me to you, and you to me. We're going to get on famously aren't
we?"From:stoddard-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <stoddard-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> on

one has tested their temperment.

What time of day is it? If Ahearn would like, we can alter course to bring us
within view. I am sure he'd like to use them in his herd if they are useable.
Having an airborne overwatch is useful. Probably not as much for the DM,
though. However, it has to be exhausting, which I hadn't considered when
working out the watch schedule. Holly should not take a watch. So, leaving
out Holly, Elmore, Xander and Wally, that leaves Ahearn, Hagar and Agatha with
infravision, and Sean and John Mac without. So, I figure Hagar gets first
watch with John Mac, Ahearn takes last watch with Sean, and Agatha splits her
shift covering the overlap. I figure elves need less sleep.

Holly will see a large herd of maybe 25 overly hairy large humped cows with
curved black horns. Most are uniformly dark brown with some tan and black
