"Or, we fight our way to the Eastern entrance, dump shitloads of fire and
brimstone into the hole, and wait for the inevitable flanking move by ambushing
it, from a position more mutually supportive. I have no intention of meeting
Mother any time soon."
Sean takes a deep breath. "Let's list our assets. Two hard core front line
fighter-types, the Chaos brothers and their chaperone, Speaker Greenmantle and
his six guardspersons, the arcane stylings of Xander, and the Weavery of
Carandolana. And an invisible eye i the sky that can be the difference between
being surprised and doing the surprising. I don't see any way to split that
without throwing away somebody, and I won't throw away anybody. Speaker
Greenmantle and his guards are probably best equipped to play defense, based on
his usual prayers. Hagar and John Mac can either come forward with the
demolition crew, or dig in with the Rock of Greenmantle and await whatever
comes out after Xander and Carandolana deliver the first strike. You, Joseph
and I go with the demolition squad, to protect them, and to ascertain their
success."
Sean sighs. "Brother, I can't stop you from doing as you will. I simply fear
that you will end up meeting your mother prematurely. So I offer a compromise.
Let's scout the northern entrance before deciding what to do. If it is
conducive to an entangle prayer to bottle neck it, we go that route, assuming
Carandolana is amenable. Then I will stay there with you, and shoot whatever
tries to get through the tangle field, and you and Joseph finish off what gets
through. But only if Xander and the rest are confident that he can blast the
caves effectively. Given the constraining nature of caverns, and the expanding
nature of fireballs, I am curious as to whether he'll be able to get both
entrances to belch fire from the same fireball. I will cease talking. Let's
hear from everyone else."

party, which was why I was all about going on my own in the first place, you'd
be down only one body, and I could probably cause enough chaos at that opening
to buy you some time. This was my compromise offer. Of course, we could all
just hit one entrance and get flanked, which is where our most vulnerable spell
casters are going to be, so when they go down we can follow and then we can all
go visit Mother together..."

"While I like that idea, without us, and with Holly on aerial recon, the rest
of the party consists of Hagar, Xander, Elmore and Carandolana, with six or
seven of the Speaker's Guard. Either John or I should probably stay with the
'main body'."

the same time and flank us. So, what if Sean, Joseph and John Mac and I sneak
up to and set ourselves up for an ambush at one cave entrance BEFORE the group
strikes the other entrance with spells and fighters and arrows, so that when
they do attack, if anyone comes out of that hole at the attack start, we're
here to flank them. And with Holly overhead she can relay to us once the fight
starts if the group needs us at the next entrance, where we can quickly
redeploy and offer support."

"Aye, we could. And I am sure you have someone in mind. But we do not know
the passages within the caves. We might never link up. And you'd be alone."
Sean looks at Ahearn.
OOC: What does the top of the "cave" look like? Can we get above the
entrances? Is it like a hill? If so, "I think we put ourselves atop the cave
complex. That may give us the vantage point to see where they come from and
where to focus our attack."

"My prince, I am uncertain that splitting our forces before a numerically
superior foe is a great idea. I think the best we can hope for is to keep our
force together and simply kill whatever comes after us. Our spy in the sky can
give us warning of what might come out of whichever entrance we leave
unguarded. Indeed, I think Holly can be best employed as an intelligence
gatherer. She can listen to what is inside the cave from the roof, hearing
best she can and letting us know what we need to, just as she can watch the
unguarded entrance." Sean pauses. "But if you wish to leave someone to watch,
it should be someone who is relatively self contained. Someone like myself, or
Carandolana. To detach more than that weakens the main body too much. That is
my recommendation."

OC - got it.
Hagar suggests a bit of spread out formation too and agrees to entangle one
entrance. Suggest we leave someone or two to watch that entrance while the
rest assault the other.

Hurrumph, one moment it is kill the dragon the next it is kill the
witches. Sean, I think the witches are a danger we probably can handle in bits
an pieces in an attrition fight that is as long as they decide not to come
after us at once. The dragon is a one shot fight an if we do not catch it in
the lair we are dead meat or acid meat for we do not have enough aerial
fighters to deal with it. Once it is hurt enough or runs out of acid to spew
it wil just fly away.
Both routes have dangers we have to go through to get there so.
Looking to the group, who is going and who is staying to defend the
cove.
Each who is going sound off, are you prepared to fight the dragon or
witches? Which one first. I am not going to order us to fight one or the other
unless I need to. Hurrumph
Then a plan, no just rushing out and seeing what happens hurrumph.

"If there is no objection, I am going to keep this for now, unless there seems
to be a greater use for it elsewhere. But I think considering the weapons I
attack with were chosen for their speed rather than their damage, this would be
a good compliment for me in a fight. I am tired of always being a punching bag
and not having much time to punch back!"

Sean nods solemnly at Pomeroy. "Exceptionally
careful.... I will make every effort. I try not to make a habit of disobeying
Gods. I'd best tell Joseph. He is my babysitter when out in the rough."
When he speaks with Ahearn, Sean will say "It appears
we are to go forth whilst being exceptionally careful.... yeah, I know..."

The gnomes will alter to a small number of large
beetles burrowing out of the ground near the original entrance. They are
quickly dispatched.
