Damn shame. He was one of my favorites.
I remember listening to Jim Rome one day, don't even remember who he was
talking to, I was only half paying attention... Some D lineman or another. They
were talking about his career and whatnot, and Jim asks him about which players
were difficult to play against. Dude gets animated and immediately says "Tunch
Ilkin was the DIRTIEST %^&* who ever played!"
You could *HEAR* my shit-eating grin...
Dude played O lineman. For Chuck Noll. THAT... is saying something.

He announced it to the public last year during the season, I believe, and then
finished the year in the booth anyway.

As expected Tunch Ilkin officially retried from announcing to focus on his ALS
treatment. He has always come off as a genuine person who has a passion for
life. I wish him the best and will miss the banter between Tunch and Wolf
during games.
