So we all know the giant TJ Watt extension is expected in the near future.
After next year Minkah will be the big payday. A few other questions need to be
answered in the extension category before the end of next summer. Does the team
extend DeCastro, Juju, Washington, Johnson , Haden or Edmunds.
DeCastro and Haden are 32 and 33 respectively and great players heading to the
twilight of their careers. If DeCastro bounces back this year his value could
remain high. I think Haden will not have a huge market at his age. Not sure the
team keeps either.
I think Juju is gone either way unless for some reason he shows he can be a
pure #1 which I don't think will happen. The cap is likely to rebound in a big
way and he will get his $$$ next off season.
That said does the team try to lock up Washington on the cheap as a guy who
will be you clear #3 after Juju goes. The problem with him is that he has
shown flashes and would likely have a bigger role on a more WR deficient team.
I see a desire to extend Johnson next year , but if he fixes his drops issue
and has a big year someone may outbid us if he opts to hit the market.
Edmunds is a good question. He is a solid starter who plays below his draft
position, but above many other starters in the league. If he is willing to sign
a team friendly deal I can easily see him being back there with Minkah for a
few years. The development or Brooks or any other young players may make the
decision for the team.
The biggest question will likely be which QB we are talking about this time
next year. Does Ben retire. Did Mason or Haskins show enough to give them the
keys? Are Derek Carr, Jordan Love, Mitch Trubisky on the radar or did the team
get their QB in the draft.
