Anyone watch the 30 for 30 on Sunday evening? If not, you should try to catch
it as it was so entertaining on a few levels. First, watching and listening to
Tom Brady and Charles Woodson ("Michigan Men", what a tired phrase!)
argue/debate/wrestle over the Tuck Rule play was worth the price of admission.
And I learned something I never noticed on that play: Brady tried to trip (kick
to the nuts) the Raider going after the fumble/incompletion. That, and
Woodson's clear blow to Brady's head on the sack.
Anyway, worth watching also on the level that it applies to the Steelers. Had
the Immaculate Reception never occurred, one could wonder if the Steelers would
ever have gone on their legendary 70s romp. My gut says YES as there was just
too much talent on those teams to not have won a Super Bowl or two, but we'll
never know. Similarly, the 30 for 30 hypothesizes some "what ifs?". Woodson
asks Brady if he would've left the Patriots had they lost that game and Bledsoe
been reinstalled as the starter? Brady asks Woodson about had the Raiders won
that game and eventually a Super Bowl, would he have been a Raider for Life?
And the BIGGEST Steeler connection comes from Woodson talking about how he knew
the Raiders would lose that game after the Tuck Rule Reversal ruling came down.
He commented on how hard it was to get their motors running again and to get
back into the game when things resumed with the Pats still having the ball.
Made me think about Steelers-Patriots a few years ago with Jesse James'
non-touchdown. I don't think the Steelers ever recovered mentally from that
review and ruling, and in my opinion, it cost them that game, the #1 seed
overall, and IMHO another Super Bowl...
