True, but I still have a home there that costs me $10,000 a year in property
taxes and flood insurance and I pay over $20,000 a year in income tax. I also
have a lot of money invested there that if things keep going the way they are I
might not be able to get out before it loses most of its value.
Collapsing socialist economies all follow the same pattern. First they raise
taxes and confiscate money through fines and penalties or outright
confiscation. Then they pass laws to prevent money from leaving the country.
When the Roman Empire finally collapsed there were less than 1,000 people still
living in Rome, a city that once housed over 1 million people. The people
abandoned their houses and left town because the taxes were so high.
