Letters To The Editor
As a World War II Merchant Marine Vet. I am accusing the Cruise Ship
Companies of being in a rut, they are giving all their orders to foreign
shipyards and registering them under foreign flags and home porting
them here to get the maximum Yankee Dollars when the industry is
booming as if pride and patriotism doesn't count. In the long run a
Cruise Ship built, registered, manned and home ported in America I
predict would be booked solid for years in advance even if the cost
per person is higher with a minimum of advertising. Ship building and
manning is just what our country needs, a great job increasing, high
paying, tax and pride producing industry that can also add to our
homeland security by doubling as a troop carrying or hospital ship if
needed.It is my impression that all mega cruise ships are partially
subsidized by the country that builds them and unlike war ships they
pay back by making money. This is an election year and I would like
to see the candidates speak up on this subject for making America
great again. Wouldn't it be easy and worthwhile to take a poll on those
boarding Cruise ships today?
