On the PBS TV which announced Sunday's special it also showed President Johnson
who was vice
President when Kennedy was assassinated, talking on the phone saying he didn't
see why he or our
country needed to be there yet he carried the war forward vigorously and later
announced that he
wasn't going to run for President on his own, obviously because of the war.
It was also pointed that that the name before was French Indochina and had been
a colony of France
for almost a 100 years who took it back after Japan was defeated but now
Communist leader Ho Chi Min
wanted independence and won it after many battles with the French.
In my humble opinion if Ho Chi Min was anything but a Communist we would never
have gone in there.
At that time Communism was considered a threat and to let one country become
communist then other
countries would soon follow like a column of dominos falling.
For those of you who think Communism is so terrible that it would automatically
collapse given time
then how long should we wait till this happens?
Another thought, best not to mess with communist led countries, they seem to
put up a pretty good fight
without using suicide bombers as weapons.
