In keeping with the approach of Halloween, today's site from travel firm
Matador offers a round-up of America's most hair-raising tales. Gentle
Subscribers will find each state represented in a suitably macabre fashion with
these oft-told legends.

these 50 stories make the most of the dark side of urban and rural legends.
Ranging from the eerie tale of Bucksport, Maine's witch's leg to a phantom
hitchhiker in Montana, the stories tend to the creepy rather than the scary.
There's even a slightly upbeat note in The Curse on Escalante Petrified Forest
in Utah, although Arizona's Slaughterhouse Canyon legend pushes the scale back
towards the gruesome.
