        Piano Technicians Guild: Piano Care

Today's site, from an organization for piano technicians, offers
information for the general public on the proper maintenance of the
instrument. Gentle Subscribers will find practical materials dealing with a
number of topics for keeping pianos in top condition.

"Your piano is an investment in your future. It can bring you and your
family a lifetime of music, adding immeasurable joy and beauty to your
home. Since it is also such a large investment, it should be maintained
with the utmost care. ... Every piano requires a different level of
maintenance, depending upon the quality of materials used and the design
and level of craftsmanship." - from the website

The site covers a number of issues in its articles, such as how often
pianos should be tuned, with specific guidelines from well-known
manufacturers. An explanation of the difference between tuning and voicing
is provided, along with information on piano rebuilding and reconditioning.
General maintenance advice and helpful tips on buying a piano are also
included. In addition, there are diagrams displaying technical aspects of
the instrument with views of both satisfactory and worn piano hammers.
