        Online-Convert.com: Service of the Month

With the increasing popularity of ereader devices comes corresponding
demands on the software side to facilitate all the minor problems, quirks,
and foibles that any emergent technology trails in its wake. Leaving
severely to one side issues involving DRM (Digital Rights Management), the
simple task of changing the format of an ebook, which may be in one of a
variety of formats, to the increasingly common standard of .epub can prove
a formidable challenge.

While many ereader fans rely on the outstanding capabilities of the
freeware program Calibre for all their ebook software requirements, even
this stalwart application can't handle everything thrown at it, especially
in the conversion process. Although there are numerous online ebook
conversion websites, most of these do no more than use Calibre themselves,
which doesn't take the savvy reader much further.

Among this generally less than satisfactory group, however, one site stands
out, this month's free service, Online-Convert.com, from the German based
company QaamGo Media UG.

Priding itself on capably handling the more commonly found range of ebook
formats -- .pdf, .mobi, .lit, .lrf, .doc, and html among others -- this
easy to use service quickly converts an ebook to the .epub format. In
addition, it will also convert from various formats to the obscure .fb2 and
tcr, as well as Kindle's broadly popular .azw with the latest firmware
update. A further enhancement allows a specific ereader to be selected from
a group of widely used devices, including Sony, Kobo, Kindle, and the Nook.

Noting that each file will be automatically deleted after 10 downloads or
24 hours, whichever comes first, that no backups are made and that if
preferred, the uploaded files may be deleted from the website's server
immediately, privacy concerns seem to be adequately covered, while other
issues which may arise are discussed in the FAQ.
