The Spider Myths Site: Myths, Misconceptions, and Superstitions About
Spiders

Today's intriguing site attempts to dispel the widespread misinformation
about spiders. Gentle Members who may not be as au fait with the facts on
spiders as they might wish to be, may discover some surprising information
at the website.

"Opinions expressed are ... [those of] Rod Crawford, Curator of Arachnids,
[at the Burke Museum located on the campus of the University of Washington]
...founded on 30 years experience working with spiders and misinformed
humans." - from the website

The site is divided into a number of categories. General Myths covers such
fallacies as all spiders make webs and all arachnids are spiders while the
Identifying Spiders section sets the record straight about the difficulties
of identification. In the House Spiders category, discover why the kind act
of putting spiders "back outside" may be cruel, whether they're dangerous
to children and pets and the facts on wolf spiders.

Weird Myths offers a riveting collection of creepy stories including
swallowing spiders while sleeping, flesh-eating "camel spiders" and deadly
spiders lurking under airplane toilet seats. "Dangerous" Spiders reveals
the truth about the terrifying tarantula, aggressive Hobo spider and the
frightening Brown Recluse spider. The site also provides photos of those
spider favorites -- wolf spider, giant house spider and "pink toe"
tarantula as well as diagrams and maps.
