Earth Science Picture of the Day
Today's site unabashedly models itself on the ever-popular (and previously
featured) "Astronomy Picture of the Day" with equally magnificent images
from planet Earth. Many Gentle Subscribers may wish to add this site to
their daily circuit of the web.
"The Earth Science Picture of the Day (EPOD) highlights the diverse
processes and phenomena which shape our planet and our lives. EPOD will
collect and archive photos, imagery, graphics, and artwork with short
explanatory captions and links exemplifying features within the Earth
system. ... Each day a different image or photograph is featured, with an
accompanying caption, that deals with various topics in Earth Science." -

From dazzling images of the planet taken from space to vivid up-close shots
of ice storms, the range of these digital photos of Earth is virtually
limitless. Providing a thumbnail image for each day under the month links,
the searchable and browsable archives go back to September 2000. The
spectacular photo for this day is "Sunrise over Northern California" with a
brief, informative commentary and links to a number of excellent related
resources.
