Herbs at a Glance
Today's site, from the US government's National Center for Complementary and
Integrative Health -- a division of the well-respected National Institutes of
Health -- offers a reliable guide on the better known herbs with a claim to
good health enhancement. Gentle Subscribers who view herbal supplements with a
critical eye will find the site a dependable reference.
"Herbs at a Glance is a series of brief fact sheets that provides basic
information about specific herbs or botanicals -- common names, what the
science says, potential side effects and cautions, and resources for more
information." - from the website
What initially appears to be a bare bones list blossoms into separate and
detailed web pages for each of the more than 50 herbs cited. Covering well
known botanicals such as Chamomile and Garlic, it also provides information on
the more obscure varieties -- Butterbur and Rhodiola, for example. Each is
discussed in terms of background information, popular claims made for the herb,
safety, and the findings of any rigorous scientific studies which have been
conducted. Additional sources of reliable data are also available.
