Discover The Forest
Today's site, a collaborative project under the aegis of the US Forest Service,
offers information and ideas on experiencing the benefits of a break from the
urban environment by taking advantage of nearby woodland areas. Gentle
Subscribers will discover a warmly inviting presentation designed to promote a
harmonic relationship with nature.
"Spending time in nature provides numerous benefits for families, presenting
both bonding opportunities and the chance to instill a lifelong love for the
outdoors. ... encourages parents ... to experience the outdoors with their
family to strengthen their connection with nature and each other. By exploring
local parks and forests, parents and caregivers make the forest part of their
family's story, and introduce their children to an environment where
imagination thrives and memories are made." - from the website
Although the emphasis of the presentation leans towards a focus on family
participation in enjoying America's forests, there is also ample room for
everyone to enjoy nature. With well-designed visuals and informative
connections, even the smallest American towns will find themselves surrounded
by an eye-opening variety of state parks, outdoor historic sites,
observatories, and wildlife refuges displayed on a convenient map and annotated
in a sidebar. Among the highlights are notes on Hiking Trails, Staying Safe &
Connected, and a free app particularly geared to engaging children with a
positive response to America's public lands.
