Climate Change Is Here
Today's site, from National Geographic, offers a thoughtful and scientific
appraisal of climate change. Gentle Subscribers will discover not only the
documented indicators of Earth's altering climate but positive suggestions on
how to stabilize and even improve the conditions.
"Climate change is here. ... Record heat, melting ice, and rising seas show how
climate change is affecting us. ... But there's new hope we can cool the
planet." - from the website
Three relevant themes comprise this presentation -- How do we know it's
happening; How do we fix it; and even more pertinently, How do we live with it?
This being National Geographic, dramatic photography highlights the feature
with images of melting Arctic glaciers, the Earth at night from satellite
imagery, and maps delineating hotspots around the globe. Examples of projects
to reduce fossil fuel consumption already underway, a variety of incremental
steps currently in place, and proposals on how to move to a carbon free world
are provided as well. A final section considers strategies on how to cope with
rising sea levels, and a look at the species most at risk and those which may
flourish.
