23 Well-Intentioned Acts That Don't Make Things Better
Today's site from that purveyor of outrageous trivia, Cracked.com, offers a
surprisingly serious round-up of widely held misinformation. Gentle Subscribers
will discover a collection of erroneous but conventionally accepted "facts."
"Look, we get it; everybody, for whatever reason, tries to do some good for our
planet. Whether out of self-righteousness or truly noble intentions, the end
result is the same: You're really dicking the rest of us over. ... How,
exactly? Glad you asked!" - from the website
The selection of well-intentioned efforts contributed by eager participants
covers a wide range of subjects. Leading the way are those focused on the
environment with the purpose of behaving more responsibly -- from using
recycled bags to buying clothing made from bamboo. Other well-meaning acts
which don't live up to their aims cited by the article include charity
concerts, donating old eyeglasses, and a former safe-haven law in Nebraska. For
each item a citation for why it fails to work is appended to the graphic.
Note: Unlike many of cracked.com's articles, the language and images are
generally safe for the workplace.
