John now has registry troubles. But this is as nothing, compared to
what he's done so far. It's just getting the registry entries both
spelled correctly and put in the right places. The object (that is,
the DLL) can be registered and instantiated, but unless and until all
the registry entries are correct, it won't fully work. This is just a
nuisance job, tracking down exactly where things go. I think it's safe
to say he's over the hurdle and slowly coasting in to port.
