Here's what happened.
I used the Model League function to create our league this season, modeling
2018-19 SOMIBA with 2019-20 NBA-full so that the games/minutes of the players
would look real. Anyway, doing that does not use the draft league team defense
card. Instead it uses a different card (origin as yet unknown). Brian did a
calculation, finding that if all columns are used equally it gives 1 more made
shot per 174 total shots. The problem with this was when I created LaCrosse it
did use the draft league card, so we found out midway through our first quarter
that one team had a different team defense than the rest of the league. Note
that this does not happen when you use the data from 2019-20 NBA. It also
doesn't happen if I were to remodel 2017-18 SOMIBA with 2018-19 NBA, so I don't
think Model League is busted, just the 2019-20 NBA-full league file.
I spoke to Jason Blaze, encouraging him to inform other commissioners. He said "The
commish of iNetBA mentioned something like this vaguely."
Harlan has already played his home slate, and several road games have been
played. So to not penalize/benefit anyone for playing their games early or
late the EC has ruled to switch LaCrosse to the same team defensive card as the
rest of the league at the end of this quarter.
