Both teams points guards, Gilgeous-Alexander for WIL and Lowry for GRG,
sat this one out. Q1 saw GRG go up by 5 early behind baskets by Siakam
before WIL scored 10 straight running the fastbreak off Gold misses. WIL
led after Q1 32-23 as 10 different WIL players scored. Q2 was a defensive
struggle with the Gold scoring the last 6 of the half including a Kenrich
Williams put-back at the buzzer to trail 48-47 at the half.
GRG took the lead on a Siakam inside shot and slowly grew it to a 81-70
lead after Q3. A JaMychal Green put-back with 2:29 to play gave GRG a
101-87 lead but that would be the Gold’s last basket of the night. WIL
scored 8 straight – 6 by Sabonis to cut the gap to 6 with a minute to
play. GRG made 5 of 6 FT in the last minute to hold off the WIL rally by a
final score of 106-101.
Siakam scored 38 and Randle 24. GRG shot only 18% from 3-pt territory;
WIL was not much better at just 21%. Hayward scored 16, Sabonis and Holmes
14 apiece, Reddish 12 and Jones 10. GRG had a big 11-3 advantage in steals
and also fewer turnovers 14-11.
