Quarterfinals Game 1 - ANA @ LAK
In the first period, Lake K raced out to a 10-2 lead after Griffin and
Curry hit back to back 3's on blank 11 and blank 12, respectively. Ibaka
missed his 1-10 blocks on a D-7 giving Griffin an inside hoop and 12-4
lead. Griffin got a hoop and some harm but missed the FT putting Lake K up
18-4 just over four minutes in and had 13 of Lake K's 18 points. Ingles
got the game's first dazzler to make it 20-6. Griffin missed a three, got
his own rebound, but missed the open inside shot. Right after Lowry went
to the bench, a RG pass could have been a 3-20 dazzler but instead Jokic
missed the open inside shot. Neto got a FB dazzler the other way to make
it 24-8. Back to back loose ball fouls went against ANA and put them over
the foul limit. Neto made two FT's on the second one making it 26-10 with
5:01 left. Jokic tipped in a miss but LeVert got a dazzler on the next
possession for a 28-12 lead. Monk hit a D-8 three with exactly four
minutes left. Harrell scored inside and Neto scored on the break for a
32-15 lead. Jokic got an X-11 against a 2-5,11 defender for an inside
basket. Monk hit another three on a blank 2 to cut it to 32-20. Jokic
missed inside and missed his own tip in and Neto got a FB dazzler the other
way. Dedmon answered with a blank 3 three pointer. Neto and Pondexter
scored on back to back FB shots to match the biggest lead so far at 40-23.
Lake K held for last shot and got a Harrell inside blank 9 for a slam dunk
instead of the usual blocked shot for most inside players. Lake K couldn't
have asked for a better start to the playoffs with a 42-23 lead after 12
minutes. Lake K out shot ANA 69% to 36% from the field and led 16-7 in
rebounds. ANA led 3-2 in made 3's. Lake K doubled ANA in assists 12-6 and
led 4-0 in dazzlers. Griffin went for a game high 13 in just six minutes.
Curry added 7 and three Lake K bench players scored 6. Only one ANA player
scored 6 or more points and that was Monk with his two 3's for just 6
points. Lake K led 10-2 in FB scoring (usually a weak category for Lake K)
and 16-8 in points in the paint where we usually excel.
In the second period, Bradley started things with a D-4 three pointer. ANA
went into PRESS defense but Thompson got a FB X-2 to go in against a 2-4
defender. Lowry hit a three on a blank 5 but Gobert answered with a hoop
and some harm and made the FT. Murray hit a three on a blank 12 and the
PRESS caused a turnover on an Opp Def 22. But Lowry missed his 6-20 FB
dazzlers and Griffin missed his 7-20 dazzlers on the other end. Then Lowry
got ANA's firt dazzler of the game and the PRESS caused another turnover.
Thompson's defense prevented a Lowry drive and Gobert got lucky on a D-10 X
1-4 that came up 1. Ingles missed his 6-20 dazzlers on back to back
possessions as ANA scored on the other end both times including a Jokic
dazzler to cut it to 51-40. After Griffin scored inside, Curry got a steal
on an Opp Def 23 but missed the FB shot which led to a Lowry FB dazzler the
other way. Thompson got fouled on a three and made 2 of 3 FT's. Harrell
got a hoop and some harm to give Jokic his 2nd foul. He made the FT for a
58-42 lead with 5:55 left in the half. ANA went over the foul limit again
with 5:17 left. Lowry got another dazzler but a reach in foul on the PRESS
gave Griffin two FT's and he made both for a 63-47 lead with exactly five
minutes left in the half. The lead reached twenty for the first time at
67-47 when LeVert got an X-8 against Jokic's 2-9 defense on a drive.
Another reach in foul gave Curry FT's but he missed one and then Monk hit
another three on a blank 3. With two seconds left, Harrell rolled a D-7
but Jokic could not block it and Lake K took a 77-58 halftime lead after
both teams scored 35 points in the quarter. ANA led 6-0 in dazzlers in the
quarter and now leads 6-4 for the game. Each team only managed two FB
points in the quarter. The lead reached as high as 22 and as low as 11 in
that quarter. Even with no dazzlers in the quarter, Lake K increased their
FG shooting to 72%! ANA rose to 51%. ANA was 4 for 8 from downtown in the
quarter while Lake K did not attempt one. Lake K was doubling ANA in
rebounds 24-12 but both teams had 20 assists now. 20 assists on 23 FG's
for ANA. Griffin now stands at a game high 22 points while Jokic is the
only double digit scorer for ANA with 15. Lake K had two more with Curry
scoring 10 and Harrell 14.
In the third period, Jordan got a hoop and some harm to cut it to 79-63.
Griffin missed his 7-20 dazzlers again and Ibaka scored inside to cut it to
14. Lowry missed his 3-20 dazzlers and Griffin hit a three on a blank 3 to
push it back to a 19 point lead at 84-65. A 9-0 Lake K run made it a 23
point lead for the first time and then Lowry again missed his 3-20
dazzlers. It became a 13-0 run and 92-65 lead before Murray hit a D-9
three. Ingles got a dazzler, the first for Lake K since the first
quarter. Griffin missed his dazzlers again and Murray hit another three on
a blank 11. After cutting the lead to 14 early in the third, Lake K
dominated the rest of the quarter and built as high as a 36 point lead!
Lake K out scored ANA 37-21 in the quarter and takes a 35 point lead into
the 4th at 114-79. Lake K's FG shooting edge is now 69% to 44%. Lake K
led 2-1 in dazzlers that quarter and 9-4 in assists. Griffin now has 36
points in just 24 minutes. Harrell added 19 in 20 minutes. Gobert has 15
points and a game high 12 rebounds. Curry is at 14. Jokic is leading ANA
with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Murray is up to 16 and Ibaka 12.
In the fourth period, ANA went on a 10-0 run with five FB baskets in a row
to cut a 37 point lead down to 27 with six minutes left. But Lake K was
able to put in the scrubs the rest of the way and still added to the lead.
Lake K takes Game 1 by a score of 142-110. Both teams got six players
scoring in double figures. Jokic had a strong triple double with 24
points, 13 rebounds, and a game high 12 assists. Murray added 22 points.
Lowry got a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists. Griffin led Lake
K with a game high 42 points. Curry matched Murray with 22. Harrell
chipped in 20 off the bench. ANA led 14-6 in assists in the final
quarter.
