Chi Chi,
I am still in the situation where I intend to participate in this wonderful
event.
But, I cannot commit just yet. I am expecting a few RFPs to be hitting over the
next couple months.

Proposed Itinerary
TRAVEL
Southwest is probably your best bet since they offer a non-stop flight twice
a day from SD to AUS and return non-stop service. The morning flight #403
leaves at 0700 getting into Austin on Central Time Zone at 1200. (Should
allow plenty of time for an afternoon round before check-in). Returning
flight #405 is a non-stop leaves at 2100 and arrives in SD at 2155. RTrip
Cost if booked now is $430. Add $30 for Early Bird seating so the total
cost is ~$460.
DATES
Wed Oct 19 to Sun Oct 23 (note Oct 26 thru Oct 30 works as well).
HOTEL
Securing lodging at a reasonable cost is probably also close to the top of
the list. Unfortunately, AFVC does not offer anything in metro Austin so
that is off the board. So unless someone has a connection with one of the
major hotel chains to get a super rate, the best option may be Sr or Govt
rates for those who qualify. I can try to work with the sales office of the
preferred hotels once we zero in on the numbers of members interested in
making the trip.
