Saponification doesn't end at trace so there is no guarantee that the oil added at trace is the only oil that will be not taken up by the lye From: soapcraft-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:soapcraft-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Mandy Coleman Sent: Sunday, 10 January 2010 5:50 p.m. To: soapcraft@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [soapcraft] superfatting Kia ora koutou So whats your opinion on adding small amounts of oil at trace. I have read quite a bit about this and there seems to be some debate over whether it makes any difference adding oils at trace or in the base oil mixture. Some soapers seem to think that it gives you more control over what oils are not affected by the lye, eg adding a small amount of avocado at trace would leave it less affected and it would keep more of its qualities than if you add it to your main mix which is mixed with the lye..thoughts? experiences? experiments?
