Kia ora gina
Thanks for your speedy reply.the roughness of sand might be good as a
laundry soap like the sandsoap that is sold commercially....for scrubbing
nasty stained things....we have some quite fine dark sand on our river
estuary so I might give that a go. Some1 told me they used pumice sand and
that it was quite fine, I don't think I have seen this sand so I am not sure
whether our sand would be coarser or not.

Interesting re your trace comments, I tend to mix at the higher range of
temps, cos I cant wait any longer...and as for hotter in the summer, well
that's if we ever get one, we have had about 3 days so far!

yeah I have been using a stick blender-its gr8!perhaps that's why I have
been having so much fun, cos its so quick.. :)

thanks

Subject: [soapcraft] Sand in soap

Thanks for the lovely introduction Mandy. Yes I have used sand in my soap.
Everyyear I go camping with my family at Kai Iwi Lakes and so one year I
used the lakes sand. It was nice and scrubby. Not sure about blending it
right through though...........i think it can be a little to rough but would
be suitable for guys hands........remember solvo soap............that was a
sand type soap.
I spread a layer of sand on top of the soap.

During the warmer months you can get away with a much lighter trace (light
custard) and it pays to keep your soap making tempertures at the lower
range around 30 ish because soap can set quickly and seize in warm weather.

Over winter you can increase temperatures and stir until a little thicker.

Are you using a wizz stick........I am all for natural hand blending but its
a time issue. Wizz sticking is very quick.

Other peoples experience would be great to hear.

Happy New Year
Gina
