I was very much impressed, and convinced them to join SMBA. (It was my

future interest in the Derr kids pursuing learning bluegrass on the
instruments and if they are, encouraging them to apply for full
scholarships in future years. I think it is very unselfish of them to only
request the cost of the camp at this point especially when two of them are
so young. This is a first and maybe something we can do in the future as an
inexpensive way to get kids to camp that they might otherwise not do

We have a total of 8 scholarship applications received this year. Three
are from the same family and requesting only $25 each for a music camp.
Autumn and Canyon are both eligible and applied, and there are several
other very deserving applicants.
This year, the Laird family will be selecting one of the applicants to
receive the award funded by the Dick Laird scholarship fund. I will work
with the family to make that selection. After that point, I am
recommending that we award four scholarships (same as last year), plus the
$25 awards requested by the three Derr family members (total $75).
