Do what you think is good for you, of course.
However (and sorry if this statement looks harsh), I tend to assume that your
issues are caused by your hard to follow tinkering with the speech settings
rather than due to a difference between versions 14.2.1 and 15.0 of Slint.
Perhaps you could at least temporarily use espeakup, possibly setting a mbrola
voice in the file /etc/espeakup.conf. How to do that is indicated in this file.
