Hello Didier,
Thanks for the heads up on gnome 3 with Slackware. I knew I couldn't install it
but didn't realise that others were making progress to install it. For now,
it's one good reason for me to continue maintaining Ubuntu.
I mostly want to use Slint for development work. I have started using Unix as
an IDE and Vim as my text editor. This suits my workflow. I find Slint to be
better for this than Ubuntu because it has a stronger adherence to Unix
principals. I will try and think of some examples.

I like how Slint is so close to the Unix, but it isn't as user-friendly as
Ubuntu on the command line.
When you find the time, please elaborate, maybe giving examples, as I would

I think this makes it harder for those who are just starting to learn. I'm
still reading through the documentation on the website and the Slackware book.
Take the Slackware book with a bit of salt, as it has not been updated recently.

don't know how usable it is with a braille display.
Unlike most blind users I'm not a fan of the MATE desktop. I prefer Gnome 3
to Gnome 2 if I have to work in the GUI. I love how Slint boots into the
console and I spend most of my time there.
For beginners Ubuntu is very easy to install. It has got even easier with
23.04 and 23.10. It has sudo setup out of the box, which is good as most
people new to Linux don't understand privileges. I'm still using Ubuntu
because I have it setup the way I want it. I'm struggling to get all that
moved over to Slint. Hence, two laptops. One is the production rig, and the
other is a test rig. I'm currently in the throes of setting up mutt with
multiple IMAP accounts and one Gmail.
I don't mind the Slint installer as I can do it with a braille display. I
find it easier than Debian ... I would like to see an option to choose a
different desktop though. Gnome 2 (MATE) and Gnome 3.
Well, Gnome 3 is not included in Slackware, and I would not be able to maintain
all the packages it encompasses.
However there have been attempts from Slackware users to provide a set of
third-party Gnome 3 packages for Slackware 15.0, the most recent one being in
this repository:
http://slackware.uk/gfs/15.0/41.10/x86_64/
(more recent versions are provided by the same person, but for
Slackware-current, which will become Slackware 15.1 when released).
I will try to install these packages in a VM and see what I come up with, esp.
with respect to compatibility of versions of some packages already shipped in
Slint. I will also get in touch with the maintainer, to know if he could add
the dependencies information to the metadata. If yes Gnome 3 could be added to
Slint as xfce-4.18 from this repository:
http://slackware.uk/salix/x86_64/xfce4.18-15.0/. I will report my progress ;(or
lack of) in this list.
Out of curiosity, what makes you prefer Gnome 3 over Mate? I ask as I
personally hate Gnome 3 <smile>
