Howdy Storm,
So this is something to check.
Brandt, would you be kind enough to do that?
You would just need to look at the exported variables in ~/.profile and check if
their values are preserved when ratpoison is started.
For instance if you type:
echo $GTK_MODULES
the answer should be:
gail:atk-bridge
As an aside, I am not sure that all these settings be needed in the context of
rapoison, but I digress.
Cheers,
Didier

I set the variables in my ~/.xinitrc, I'm not really sure if the other file
gets
read or not.
Thanks,
Storm

Thanks for the explanation Storm, that makes sense.
Just to be sure: the orca-on script also sets in ~/.profile a bunch of a11y
variables. This file will be read by the shell when starting ratpoison,
right?

Ratpoison is only a window manager, not a full desktop. It is also very
light
weight meaning you get what you add to the .ratpoisonrc, no more, no less
(except when it doesn't launch orca for you) lol. This means that the
autostart
directory isn't taken into account when you launch rp.
Thanks,
Storm

Howdy,
I am a bit puzzled as if the user has typed "orca-on", the file:
~/.config/autostart/startorca.desktop should have this content:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Version=1.0
Name=orca
Exec=/usr/bin/orca
Hidden=false
so orca should automatically start when starting the desktop environment as
specified in
https://specifications.freedesktop.org/autostart-spec/autostart-spec-latest.html
Also, after all issues will have been solved I will gladly include
ratpoison
and
strychnine in Slint (probably in Slint 15, within one month or after the
imminent release of Slackware 15)

Check in
/usr/share/applications/
And see if you have qemu.desktop. For some reason this .desktop file
causes
yad
to crash. Just remove it and the menu should work. Also, make sure that
yad is
installed, the menus as well as the run dialog depend on it. Alt+f1 does
system
wide applications, alt+f2 is the run dialog, and alt+f3 is the local
applications menu. Finally, control+alt+d will bring up a menu of any
.desktop
files located on our desktop. If you use the latest version of
audiogame-manager, for example with the -D flag, it will create both a
localmen
and a desktop entry.
Interesting about orca not starting. There was an old bug I fixed a long
time
ago that should have solved that one for everybody. If you check in the
startup
section of the .ratpoisonrc, you should find an exec orca command. If
that's not
there, I'll have to do some digging to find out why.
I am glad you are liking ratpoison. Eventually, we'll hunt down all the
remaining bugs and squish the. :)
Thanks,
Storm

Hi all,
After redoing my .ratpoisonrc with strycnine, I could finally use the
thing as
intended, however I found that I don't have an applications menu. Orca is
also
not starting after I run startx to get to the desktop.
How can I fix these issues?
I really, really like ratpoison so far.
