On slint, I get notified of rather or not my network has connected or
disccnected, but not thunderbird notificNs. On other distros like arch or
Debian I do not have this problem. HTH.

Subject: [slint] Re: Desktop Notifications Not Spoken Since Upgrade of Mate to
1.24
Hi Dave,
these notfications are spoken here.
Does someone have the issue reported by Dave?
Best regards,
Didier

I don't recall whether there is a solution for this one, and i think it's
been asked before? In other instances of Mate 1.24, the desktop
notifications such as "new mail", "battery low", and "connected to wifi", are
spoken, automatically, as they come in, which is very convenient. In Slint,
with versions of Mate, prior to 1.24, the notifications were spoken in this
way, but, now, they're silent or missing. What can I do to restore them?
Thanks,
