[slint] Changes to Freelists Subscription Process

I have several email lists at the same list server as this list,
freelists.org in Canada.
Unfortunately, in trying to help Jim Green, a member of this list,
stay up to date with Slint information by subscribing to the Slint
list with his two new email addresses.
One is at sdf.org which provides free shell accounts.
The other is at gmx.com which provides larger mailboxes and larger
attachment sizes than gmail.com does.
I have several freelist.org email lists that I am the owner of, and I
used them at first, but I found the command console very cumbersome, I
had to give a command to put the list sever into the command mode,
then I would have to issue commands.
It had one value though, everything could be done in email by sending
commands to FreeLists Mailing List Manager <ecartis@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>.
This has it's advantages.
Unfortunately this has recently changed. To subscribe - like
subscribing to this list - you used to send an email to
slint-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, the list server would then just send you
an email back and you'd reply to that email for verification, and when
that email was received you'd get an email saying you were subscribed.
Now it's changed, instead of just receiving an email from FreeLists
Mailing List Manager <ecartis@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> you now receive an email
with a link in it.
This is a quote from the email from the freelists verification email
containing the link that I received:
This is an automated message sent to verify your email address. If you
wish to be > subscribed to the
slint list, please follow this URL to confirm:

Please be advised that the link is INACCESSIBLE in console, unless you
change your alpine or mutt settings to use the "links" browser.
sdf.org email can only be received when on their local computer which
you reach by using ssh to log into it.
So if you have an account, log into sdf.org by using the command ssh
myusername@xxxxxxx.
sdf.org uses the w3m browser in the .pinerc settings, so the settings
in the .pinerc file on the sdf.org users Desktop has to be changed.
The original value in .pinerc is:
# List of programs to open Internet URLs (e.g. http or ftp references).
url-viewers=/usr/pkg/bin/w3m
This MUST be changed to:
# List of programs to open Internet URLs (e.g. http or ftp references).
url-viewers=/usr/pkg/bin/links
Save the file, log out of sdf.org and ssh back into sdf.org.
Now you can open up alpine or mutt and get your validation email from
freelists.org and click on the link.
The link will now open up in the links browser instead of w3m browser.
On the first page, you need to go to the bottom of the webpage, then
click the link that says "continue" or "next".
The next page is where the accessibility problem comes into play.
There are three radio buttons which must be selected and "pushed" with
the space bar, only the browser "links" will do this, all other text
browsers fail.
Once you have completed the permissions in the verification email, you
can change .pinerc back to w3m if you wish.
It's ironic that a email list server that uses email commands for
everything has a verification email that requires you to click on a
browser link and that the browser link is inaccessible.
But this is a work-around that allows you to get an sdf.org email
address in the sdf.org shell account to work for you.
