The whole point of the program is to write a coceptually complete story with both an emotional and logical comprehensiveness. This is seen in the story's Structure, Dynamics, Character, Theme, Plot and Genre. There are 32,672 possible story forms to use and the program basically helps you to reduce those 32,672 story possibilities to ONE STORY FORM. Which will give you a Total and Compete Story after it's written. What the program does is help you pool together how the characters interact with each other within the 4 throughlilnes. The Throughlines are (1) Overall Story Throughline, (2) Main Caracter Throughline, (3) Impact Character Throughline, and lastly, the (4) Subjective Story Throughline. Think of these throughlines as story perspective. Overall Throughline is equivilant to the Objective Character (ie, a general looking over the battlefield), who's eyes we see the story through. The Main Character throughline is equivilant to one of the soldiers on that battlefield that is Experiencing the battle personally. The Impact Character Throughline is equivilant to the enemy soldier on the battlefield, and lastly the Subjective Story Throughline is the final conflict between the Main Character and the Impact Character once they meet on the battlefield. It will also help you find storypoints that are weak or lead to dead ends in plot and/or thematic instances, that need to be fixed to make it a FULL Comprehensive Story. Which will hold your audiences attention while they're reading or watching it unfold before them. This is the basis of using the program. If you've researched the program there are many analysis' of major films which point out the interactions between characters as archetypical characters or complex characters, and gives examples as to what sections of the program are used in the story. A good example of this is Star Wars. It shows you which characters are the dynamic pairs (ie, how each archetypical characters are opposed to one another to balance the story) The pairs are as follows: Antagonist -- Protagonist, Guardian -- Contagonist (unique to Dramatica Pro), Reason -- Emotion, and Sidekick -- Skeptic. These are what the dynamic pairs are equivilant to respectively in STAR WARS: Empire -- Luke, Obi Wan -- Darth, Leia -- Chewy, and R2D2, C3PO -- Han Solo. These analysis' are numerous and applies to all story structures. Anyway, there are steps which force you to think about how your story is put together. It just depends on your writing style. If you are a structurist type writer, you use the program to plot out all your characters and their functionality in your story, their interelations between each other, the conflicts, the overall plot of your story and the theme of your story. You then write your story within those confines. If you are a Muse writer, just following your writing muses, you input them into the software along with dialog in their appropriate spots within the program and then you figure out how each character relates to the parts you've already written . I'm not saying that one method or the other is the one to use. It's just how you write or create your tale. In all stories there is conflict, whether it's personal, psychological, physical or mental. These conflicts are what drives the story forward and to a conclusion. The program just helps you organize your characters, and points of the story you are writing to make sure that all the basis' of GREAT Storytelling are covered. This is done by generating the reports that the program will give you after you completed all the points needed to tell your story correctly. The result being a perfectly structured story with no holes in any of the story properties (dynamics). All of these facts that I've mentioned are just a basic explanation of what the program is capable of helping you to maintain a coherence in your screenplay, Novel, or Short Story. I find it very useful to me, but as I said the learning curb seems astronomical, but if you break it down a bit at a time, you will change the way you write your stories. There is an extensive help system built into the program to help you understand how things work within the program and together.
