27 years ago the Swedish Academy (the body that decides the Nobel Prize in
literature) went through heavy controversies, when it refused to officially
condemn the fatwa against Salman Rushdie. Three members of this body of 18 even
stepped down (though you can't resign from the Academy, they wouldn't take part
in the academy work).
Now, the Academy changes its mind. In a letter to the daily Dagens Nyheter,
acting secretary Tomas Riad (the ordinary secretarey is on sick leave)
protests, on behalf of the Academy, against this fatwa and that it is still
