In today's Dagens Nyheter (Sweden's biggest morning paper) Elena Balzamo
wonders who is stopping Astrid Lindgren's bestselling War Diaries 1939-1945

Lindgren is of course most known for her books about Pippi Longstocking,
Karlsson on the Roof and other characters who are loved by children all over
the world. But before her literary career, and as World War II broke out, she
started writing war diaries, the years 1939-1945. Her war diaries was finally
ublished in 2015 and have been translated to many languages, to favourable
reviews. See eg:

In her diaries Lindgren frequently lashes out against both Germany and Hitler
as well as the Soviet Union and Stalin. Her war diaries has sold 80 000 copies
in Germany alone - but they seem to be a too hot potato for Russia.
Russian publishers negotiated to publish the Lindgren war diaries when,
according to the DN article, the Swedish right-holders (a company owned by the
Lindgren family) announced:
"Due to the total situation for the copyrights in Russia, we have decided not
to sell the Russian translation rights for Astrid Lindgren's War Diaries
1945-1939."
Is it the Swedish right-holders who have stopped the translation, in fear of
that it would negatively influence the Russian sales of other Lindgren works?
Or have they been pressured to stop it, in a Russia which today tries to edit
history and even rehabilitate Stalin? At this point, one can only speculate.
