Sixteen Scott as Ronny Whitmore "Introduction" Ronny sat. He couldn't bring himself to actually open the door of his parents mini-van. He hated sitting in the front seat; the passenger seat was too small. The seat belt receptacle dug into his thigh and the seatbelt itself wound't fit around him, but his mom insisted that he sit up in front with her. "This is your big day Ronny," his mom chirped brightly. "Oh, honey you'll get used to this school. It is a very nice school. I came last week and spoke with the principal and talked to him about the desks. I saw them myself, they look like they're gonna be big enough. If they're not, go to the principal's office and tell him and he'll make sure you have a desk and chair in each class." Ronny's cheeks burned and his heart sank. He knew that most kids his age would have been furious or embarrassed to death that their mother went and spoke to the principal, especially about something so private. Yet, Ronny had long ago given up and taken any help when it came to making him more comfortable. He was secretly glad his mom had scouted out the desks, he just wished desperately that she didn't have to. "Come on now honey, I fixed your favorite lunch." Ronny put his hand over the brown paper sack. He gave a weak smile at her as he instinctually felt better knowing that at someday in this horrible day he could sit down with a couple of chicken patty and lettuce on buttered wheat bread sandwiches. He would at least have one thing to look forward to. "There's also a five dollar bill in there in case you need something before or after lunch or whatever." She gave a big smile. His mom was so sweet and thoughtful and so clueless. She knew what he wanted but knew not what he needed. She was his drug dealer and she dealt comfort, acceptance and food. Ronny sighed deeply and opened the door. His mom bolted over and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and Ronny swallowed the hard lump in his throat as slowly poured out of the van and shut the door. Ronny eyed the school. It was like any other school. There were groups of people standing around talking and laughing. He saw guys in letter jackets. They actually looked nice enough. He could tell how people were from a distance out of practice. If they looked like people he knew were nice, by the way they carried themselves, their mannerism, their body language he often times pigeon holed people. He hoped the jocks here weren't relentless like back in Terre Haute. Ronny saw many girls as well. He was actually surprised to see a little diversity. He saw at least one asian girl and a few black kids. Ronny coughed and tugged at his shirt to let it billow out and resettle on him. This was a nervous habit that his dad was always on him about but his dad who was a big guy but not really fat had no idea what it was for. Unfortunately after sitting Ronny's clothes would cling to him and reveal his embarrassing body. His rolls of flesh was more noticeable and by tuggingn on the shirt the material would tent around him making a more uniform appearance. He did it a couple of more times and walked toward the front of the building. Ronny kept his eyes low and toward the ground hearing the obligatory snickers and taunts as he walked by people. There weren't too many as people were excited to be see friends after the summer break. He tried to walk quickly as he could into the building and away from the exposed area of the walk up. He found the front hall and was quickly taken aback by the rushing masses. He found the front wall and hugged as best he could looking both ways hoping to find the front office. He had only been here two minutes and he already hated this school. His heart sank in his massive chest until his eyes caught a girl coming around the corner. She was tall; very tall. Her hair was warm blonde and she had a kind face. Ronny watched her go by, barely aware that he was staring. Once she was by his cheeks burned at his rudeness but never the less he had seen a very pretty girl. He had never seen a girl as tall as she. She was captivating. Ronny grasped his slipping lunchbag to his Five Star binder and thought, "well that's two things I have to look forward to."
