Hi Margriet,                        Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed reading. this
article. Frank felt unappreciated by Old Gold and wanted more money.He was
receiving $2,800 per week. He wanted a lot more and Lucky Strike was willing to
pay him. Frank demands wentagainst everything the H.P. had represented since
its inception in 1935. He would not be just the male vocalist but starof the
show. Frank wanted to sing a Hit Parade Extra every week of his own choosing;
the orchestra would be under thebaton of Axel Stordahl and the star would do
four or five of the songs every week. Dorothy is writing about what took
placein the fall of 1947. The NBC show was broadcast from New York City and
Doris Day was the distaff vocal.                      Dorothy and her friends
behaved much better than the bobby-soxers in 1943-44. Buddy Bregman went
withhis Uncle Jule ( Styne ) to see Frank perform at the CBS Studio in
Hollywood. He told me Sinatra was kept backstageuntil it was his turn to sing a
number. This was done because the young ladies screamed every time they saw
him.                     It is interesting that Dorothy mentions Frank's
dislike for "Near You." He sang it six times on the show andalso on the March
of Dimes 10th Anniversay show ( 1-15-48 ).Ed
