Ed o'Brien:
After this performance, Dorsey and the entire band flew to Toronto
for the Canadian Expostion engagement, playing there from the
4th thru the 7th. Dorsey also worked out an agreement between
NBC and CBC so he could broadcast during the engagement. The
Saturday show (9-7-40) from the Exhibition was aired 5 to 6 PM EDT.

Sinatra's swing through New England is documented with the Dorseys
in late August through early September: "[He was in] Salem, New Hampshire,
for a one-nighter with the Dorsey band on August 30, 1940. (On subsequent
nights, they performed in Lynnfield, Mass.; Old Orchard Beach, Maine; and
Neponset, Mass.)," writes George Lyons of Malden, Massachusetts. "My Auntie

Florence, 16 at the time, got her FS autograph at the 1940 Neponset gig."

Ed O'Brien:
Sinatra's engagement at Caesars ran for seven days
from 9-2 thru 9/8. Frank appeared on Jerry Lewis' Telethon, 9-6. After
singing
"Stargazer" and "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again," Frank told Jerry he
had a pal who loved the show and wanted to come out and say hello. Jerry
was stunned when the pal turned out to be Dean Martin. The men had not
spoken in more than 20 years. After the reunion, Frank and Dean did a
terrific medley. When Frank was a guest on Carson's Tonight show, 11-
12-76, he kiddingly suggested that a nomination for the Nobel Peace
Prize was in order. He played three nights at Harrah's in Tahoe, 9/10
thru 12. Tahoe saw Frank share the bill with John Denver. The two
men did nine show in three days. The hotel received 42,000 ticket
requests for the "September To Remember" dates. Sinatra and Denver
both did their own segments and then two medleys. The first was
made up of Sinatra hits and then they joined forces for three of Denver's
most well known songs. The closing number was "September Song," sung
as a duet.

NOTE: Sinatraphile Scott Henderson says he was at this concert. He got
soaking wet. It was his first time seeing Sinatra and,
though many complained that it was such a short concert, to him it was
electrical.  He's glad he has a CD of the concert. It brings back great
memories.

Ed O'Brien reports that he has reviews of the show and Sinatra was hammered
by the critics for cutting the concert so short.
At the time, he was doing numbers from his new album "L.A. Is My Lady."  He
had not learned the lyrics so he was relying on lyric sheets placed on a
stand.
The wind and rain prevented him from effectively using that crutch on stage.
That was the reason for abbreviating the performance.

Scott Henderson:
Yes, how I remember the September 2nd, 1984 Concert at the CNE. It was
pouring rain and there was Sinatra surrounded by thunder and
lightning. Talk about dramatic effect. That was 36 years ago and
I remember it very fondly as it was my first time seeing Sinatra. I wrote
down all of the tracks and have pulled out my recording of the concert
anticipation of the anniversary.

Scott:  I was working midnights at a gas station in Belleville, Ontario in
the summer of 1984.  I caught a mid-morning train to Toronto,
took a subway up to the concert ticket outlet only to find that sales of
tickets had moved up the street to Sam the Record Man.
I ran up there, purchased my ticket, ran out and caught a taxi and made it
back to the train station with five minutes to spare to catch another train
home.
I caught a few hours sleep when I got home in the late afternoon and then
back to work.  What a crazy day.  It was going to be my first time seeing
Sinatra and I wasn't going to miss it for anything.
