A rather unusual Old Gold broadcast. Sinatra did not
open with his standard uptempo number. Langford, Simms
and The Pied Pipers did most of the singing. Frank only sang
two numbers. He did a long comedy skit with Simms and Langford.

Bandit). The half-hour show was broadcast Tuesday nights on CBS.

the music. Frank sang a lovely version of "Oh Marie" in Italian.

Kansas City, Oct. 15 – -- The first sizable band of the fall season was the Thursday (10)
night stand of the Tommy Dorsey crew at the Pla-Mor Ballroom. The band drew over
3,000 customers at a gate admission of $1.30 per head and an advance fee of $1.15. A
total of $3,250 is big money for this spot, but the mid-week date held down the take.
Dorsey and the band made a string of one-nighters between a date in St. Louis and its
opening at the Palladium Ballroom, Hollywood, where the orchestra will play while
working in Paramount's "Las Vegas Nights,' Dorsey's first film venture. Lawrence,
Kansas, Omaha and Ogden were stops on the one-nighter route. Manager Will Wittig of
the Pla-Mor officially inaugurated the fall season in his newly decorated hall with the
Dorsey engagement.

For the opening of the ultra-smart Wedgewood
Room. Lucius Boomer has obtained two attract-
ions representing the height of popular appeal
to contrast with a tasty item, with a major appeal
to the swank set. As it is both acts go over with an
accolade rarely evident among the usually restrain-
ed Park Avenue clientele. Frank Sinatra and a dance
pair from the Ballet Russe, Volkoff and Milada, give
the room one of the smartest shows in the hotel
sector.
Sinatra, with this engagement, proves that the
social register is as susceptible as the Paramount
Theater audience when there is swooning to be
done. His effect on the femmes is equally as devast-
ating. He ran the gamut of the current swoon numbers,
including "Sunday, Monday,Or Always,;" "All or Nothing
At All," a medley from "Oklahoma," and two sets of
encores. He made a graceful bow-off speech that
further ingratiated him with the audience.
Leo Reisman, who moved down from the Starlight
Roof, continues to provide the showbacking and
dance numbers. For Sinatra's turn, he uses a
femme harpist, mainly for atmospheric reasons.
Mischa Borr does the relief work.

note: Been searching for songs Frank wrote that were never published. Quite by accident
I stumbled upon this article from 9-17-48. Naish, who was Irish, wrote a story about a tinker - a
wandering handyman. Frank was interested in playing the lead. Title of the film was "The Tinker
Of Ballycullen." Film would have shown the charm and atmosphere of Ireland as it was 70 years ago.
Another of so many unrealized Sinatra film projects.
